2020-21 Season Update

To all Members of 2019/20 hockey season:

The Covid19 Pandemic has caused chaos in everything we do today. SMRHL is no different and it has created a big question mark if we will be able to continue the league this fall or for anytime in the near future. The City of Surrey threw a wrench into any decision making by announcing that all recreational facilities, pools, and arenas will remain closed until September 1, 2020. This news basically keeps us in Phase Two of the BC Restart Plan until that date. If in fact the province does move to Phase 3 on that date, hockey as we know it for the past 30 years will definitely be different if we are able to play.

That being said, the SMRHL executive has established a Safety Committee to review all the information that is presented to the public. The Safety Committee will reference Province of BC, City of Surrey, ViaSport, CARHA, RFABC as well as any Provincial Sports Organization that may provide us with information that will allow us to resume the league with proper guidelines in place.  Before the end of the June, we will provide everyone a condensed version of what safety precautions that are anticipated for September. By no means will this be an exhausted list and as new information becomes available we will be updating our list.

Our executive team feels that we must proceed as if the league will be operational next year in some form. Preparations must be made to follow our procedures from previous years.  As of today, we have received approximately 75 online applications from an invite list of 130 players. We are asking our membership to please use the online registration to register for next years season, unless you have elected to not play next year. If you are electing to not play this coming season, we ask that you advise your Captain immediately.  

The payment of the league fees were due July 15th and have now been extended to August 10th. At anytime prior to August 10th, a player may change his mind and cancel the registration.   Please note it is very important that everyone completes their registration no later than July 15th or sooner if possible. If we can not get to 100 plus registrations by then, we maybe forced to revamp the season to accommodate the lower registration or even cancel the season completely.
