SMRHL Update - August 10, 2020

SMRHL 2020/21 Update:

City of Surrey has rescheduled the opening of rink 2 & 3 until October 15, 2020 delaying the potential start of our hockey season until at least that date. However, they have yet to release any guidelines on how the facility will be operated at that time or what changes we may require to make to our structure in order to secure the ice for our league.

The Safety Committee has made enquiries about the new Canlan 4 on 4 summer hockey and although it continues to operate, the feedback has not been positive. If anyone has any information or has played some summer hockey, please forward the experience to Claude Lefebvre at cm_lefebvre@icloud.com.

As of today, the Safety Committee is of the opinion that unless SMRHL is allowed to operate at close to the structure that the league has maintained over the past 30+ years, the recommendation to the executive for approval will be to postpone the season until we are able to operate with minimal restrictions.  Any thought of designing a temporary solution would require an onerous amount of time and there will be ice time out there for anyone wanting a bit of hockey at certain arenas.
